WELCOME TO GOOD HARVEST’ GREEN SOLUTIONS

GH AGRO-FORESTRY CARBON OFFSET SOLUTION (for individuals and business)
Good Harvest’s agro-forestry carbon offset solution model is a land use system integrating agriculture (export-variety GH mango trees as the cash crop), forest trees and community - that Good Harvest has adapted for its large scale sustainable tree planting model for the  all individuals and businesses (corporate sector). The model is the most effective corporate-type tree planting initiative as it provides the “carrot” for companies to go into gainful large scale tree planting. Voluntary or even compliant tree planting for carbon offsetting from the private sector that is bereft of any economic reward and sustainability will fail. (As can be seen in other countries, tree planting initiative done thru uneconomical volunteerism and donations is not consistent and lacks longevity).

This business model bundles together export-variety mango trees and a high volume of endemic/indigenous forest trees inventories for a sustainable, cost-effective and gainful tree planting project package for environment-conscious corporations and organizations. Under this model, a small part of the inventory planted is GH export-variety mango trees and the rest, timber-type forest trees for the client-partner’s tree planting-carbon offsetting/neutral investment.  For example, for every 2000 forest trees, five percent or a hundred (100) mango trees are planted. The model enables companies to recover their cost thru the harvest income derived from the export-type mango trees nurtured by Good Harvest. What normally is an expense becomes a lucrative investment on the environment. Their investment allows them to be owners of the income generating mango trees that has a productive lifespan of up to 75 years. Said income can optionally be plowed back into more tree inventories thus creating a non-stop replication process.  Except for the one-time, minimal initial cost, there is no more out-of-pocket cost for the lifetime maintenance and nurturing of the trees. For Good Harvest, the model helps add to its export-focused mango farming objective but at the same time helps aggressively in its sustainable reforestation drive and that of the government.

Solution like the above will be in the long haul widely acceptable as seen in many countries. Corporate citizens and organizations who values service and at the same time, good and cost efficient expenditure process will commit long term if recovery of cost is assured.

Mango farming focused on export is the most lucrative agro-investment in the Philippines today. With most market like China, USA, Japan and Europe opening its doors for exportable mangoes from the Philippines, continuous growth and demand for such mango variety is assured. The Philippines has only 3.5% share in the global market mainly due to the non-exportability of most (92%) of our mango produce. This is attributed to the backyard approach and methodology given to most mango trees by our local growers. The solution is plantation-scale mango farming done in a controlled environment following a strict adherence to global standard farming methodologies from orchard site selection and preparation, to choice of the right gene pool and to the day-to-day practice of proven and latest technology such as planting orientation, pruning, bio-security and diversity measures and application of selected nutrients and fertilizers.

UNDERSTANDING GOOD HARVEST’ SUSTAINABLE TREE PLANTING FOR
    CARBON OFFSETTING/REDUCTION (CER) PROGRAM

Tree planting initiative thru volunteerism and donations are great ways and means to get tree planting activities done but they will never bring long-term consistency and will fail in producing the kind of exponential growth and multiplier effect compared to initiatives with r.o.i. as in GH agro-forestry tree planting solution. ROI not from cutting and harvesting the trees but income derived from a prolific cash crop in tandem with planting forest trees, a cash crop that is also a forest tree and can produce a high income-per-fruit ratio, Preferably a tree cash crop with a lifespan that last over a century and need not be cut for profit sake With the right cash crop, sustainable tree planting works. Such model is now at work in many countries and its time we in the Philippines jumpstart our own.

Good Harvest is in the forefront in addressing this phenomenon and has put together its own agro-forestry package for sustainable, profit-oriented tree planting package towards a more effective carbon emission reduction solution. Its chosen cash crop is the prolific  mango tree of the exportable variety. To bring out the peak potential from mango trees, they must be nurtured the export-oriented way. Science and technology must be applied. Good Harvest is the best for that job. It is the country’s #1 mango farming service provider company and is multi-awarded in its field. It developed the Hassle-free-mango-farming-for-export business that many have embraced. With the proper cash crop, tree planting can be long-term and continuous with a respectable and steady return that the business sector can appreciate. Let’s face it, not all companies have the means and the available kitty to donate millions even in a noble cause like greening and reforestation. But incentivizing them will get them to consider participating since they will eventually recover costs. What was a donation and a write-off is now viewed as lucrative investment. And nothing comes close in producing the highest return per fruit than our exportable-type mangoes. Price-per-fruit of our mango is now at S4.00 in US alone. Because of its high return per fruit, the mango trees component in Good Harvest’ agro-forestry tree planting package need not be many, thus making it very affordable. It can be as low as only five percent (5%) of the planted trees. With that, cost is not only earned back after a few years but more trees can be planted thru the scheme. The plan also offers the best harvest-sharing formula thus totally eliminating out-of-pocket cost during the productive years for the participant-partner.

Good Harvest’ Carbon Offsetting/Reduction Solution for CSR Program has many benefits not found in other E-CSR endeavors. Here are some highly noticeable advantages:

    • It is a Self-Sustaining and Self-Expanding project - project cost is recovered and sustained and continuous replication achieved from the high yield cash crop’s (mango trees) harvest income/exporting that could last for many decades. What’s achieved is a sustainable and self-replicating carbon reduction/offsetting endeavor that addresses today’s concern on Climate Change.
    • It is Permanent Cover. - Mango trees are never cut nor logged nor will the forest trees be harvested, thus remains permanent green covers for over a hundred years.
    • It is the most Noble and Holistically Effective of all CSR projects. Other projects noble objectives are limited. They are costlier, more of a donation and not self-sustaining.
    • It is the most Purposeful of all E-CSR Projects today.

The Noble Purposes achieved by this Worthy Endeavor

      • Help provide tens of thousands of new jobs in the countryside and thousands of livelihood opportunities, (a Job creation legacy).
      • Provide all Filipinos the socio-economic and environmental benefits from mango exports.
      • Generate over Php 20 Billion worth of investments in the Agricultural/Forestry sector.
      • Promote sustainable reforestation and develop hectares of land for agribusiness.
      • Instill National Pride by putting our super mangoes in the world map.
      • Contribute over US$500 Million worth of mango export earnings per year.
      • Help effectively and sustainably in the Fight vs. Global Warming and the Reduction of Greenhouse gasses. (Green Philippines legacy)
    • It has Far-Reaching effect. Through this focused export-oriented program, the export share of the best and sweetest mango in the world, our national fruit - will increased and our mango will be shared to more parts of the world. It will generate jobs and bring-in export dollars for our country.
    • It is the Most Efficient and Cost Effective Tree Planting project - the Program’s economy of scale works to your advantage. Under this business model (Agro-Forestry),Good Harvest plants ten to twenty times (20X) forest trees for every export-variety mango trees (As low as 5% of the inventory are mango trees, to be planted and nurtured for you by GH). What is paid out is just the nurturing cost for the non-productive years for the Mango Trees.  Harvest sharing applies during its productive years, thus eliminating any out-of-pocket cost ever again. The result is a truly effective and efficient tree planting program because you get back many times folds - the original one time out-of-pocket cost thru the recurring income from mango exports.

With Good Harvest’ Agro-Forestry model for Sustainable Tree Planting (MF&E=CER) package, tree planting need not be a burden, donation or a write-off.  Whether voluntary or for compliance, Corporate tree planters who wants to offset/erase their carbon footprint -  has an opportunity to recover its investment thru this solution, at the same time achieve the carbon offsetting measures and credits it aspires. It is a solution-focused action that meets head-on today’s environmental challenge.
